"A
Stitch in Time"
Since 1998,
through its Spay/Neuter Program “A Stitch In Time,”
StreetCats has funded the cost to spay or neuter more than 3,000 stray and feral
cats! Although our primary mission is to rescue abandoned cats and place them
in loving, safe homes, some cats are just too wild to be socialized as pets.
These we refer to as feral cats. StreetCats believes that spaying and
neutering cats dramatically reduces the number of cats needing a home.
Spay/Neuter vouchers are distributed on a monthly basis. The cost is $20.00 a
voucher, and includes a rabies shot. For more information,
contact StreetCats by telephone (918.298.0104) or email
(cats@streetcatstulsa.org).
In seven years,
one female cat and her offspring can theoretically produce 420,000 cats!*
Considering this
staggering fact, one can understand the importance of this program and the
urgency to continue raising awareness. Please consider donating to StreetCats,
Inc. on a regular basis so that “A Stitch In Time”
can reach as many animals as possible.

StreetCats is
not funded by city, state, county, or federal government.
The organization is supported entirely by donations, membership dues, and sales
from its boutique.

Once the member agrees to the above guidelines,
he/she is issued a voucher. The
member makes the appointment with the veterinarian of his/her choice who is
participating in our program. The member takes in the cat
for the operation and picks up the cat after the procedure.
Continued care also is part of the agreement by the member providing food and
water afterwards.
StreetCats, Inc. has altered more than
3,000 cats since “A Stitch in Time” program began in
1998. Your continued support is
critical to
the survival of this valuable program!
Take a look around and you are bound to notice them -
feral, stray, or unwanted cats. They live behind the dumpster at your favorite restaurant, under the storage building in your backyard, or in your grandmother's rural Oklahoma barn. Unwanted and homeless, these cats are the compounded result of uneducated and irresponsible pet owners who abandon or refuse to spay or neuter their cat. These cats congregate in a food-assured area, forming a colony. Regular mating occurs and kittens are forced to fend for themselves, usually resulting in a wild personality.
There are thousands of unwanted cats currently living in the Tulsa Metropolitan area. Of these, approximately four thousand will be killed at local animal shelters this year alone. Unfortunately, because cats procreate at a very rapid pace (one cat can have three litters each season with up to eight kittens in each), the numbers destroyed by trapping and euthanizing will be replaced immediately - a never-ending feral cat cycle. However, there is a solution. Through the efforts of the dedicated volunteers of StreetCats, local veterinary hospitals, area rescue groups, and concerned citizens and companies, Tulsa can eventually be a safe, "no-kill" home for our feline friends.
StreetCats
Inc.’s “A Stitch in Time” program began in 1998 and addresses the burgeoning
population of stray and/or feral felines in the greater
Tulsa
area through an aggressive trap/neuter/return/maintain effort. StreetCats, Inc.
is partnering with several veterinarians around the
Tulsa
area in our spay/neuter program.
To qualify for membership in our program, applicants
must agree to the following guidelines in their work with feral cats and feral
cat colonies:
·
Indoor cats and indoor/outdoor
cats which are pets are not considered feral and are ineligible for veterinary
services through “A Stitch in Time.”
·
Member agrees to provide an
adequate diet of feline kibble and fresh water on a daily basis to all feral
cats/colonies. In the event the
member is unable to continue to care for the feral cats/colony(s), the member
should try his/her best to make arrangements for continued care.
